Amazon setup — step-by-step

Step-by-step walkthrough for connecting your Amazon Advertising account to Sellerwerk. Usually takes two minutes. This article covers the full path, the gotchas you might hit, and how to recover.

Before you start

You need:

  • An Amazon Seller Central Professionalaccount (not Individual — the Individual plan doesn't include the advertising API access Sellerwerk needs)
  • Permissions in Seller Central to approve third-party app access — typically the account owner or an admin user
  • Your Sellerwerk account created and email confirmed (see Getting started for that part)

Step 1 — Start the connection from Sellerwerk

In Sellerwerk, go to Settings → Amazon Accounts → Connect. Click the "Connect Amazon account" button. A new tab opens pointing at Amazon's login page.

Step 2 — Log in to Amazon Seller Central

Sign in with your Seller Central credentials. If you have multiple Amazon accounts (e.g. a personal shopping account and a Seller Central one), make sure the correct one is selected — Amazon defaults to whichever you used last, which may not be the seller account.

Step 3 — Review the permissions Amazon asks you to grant

After login, Amazon shows a consent screen listing the permissions Sellerwerk is requesting. For the Advertising API, the key scope is Advertising. Read through the list — you should see things like "read your advertising campaigns" and "manage your advertising data".

Sellerwerk does not request access to your financial data, customer data, or order data. If you see those scopes, something is wrong — cancel and email support@sellerwerk.de.

Step 4 — Approve and return

Click Approve(or "Allow" depending on Amazon's interface version). Amazon redirects your browser back to Sellerwerk automatically.

If a popup blocker interrupts the redirect, copy the URL Amazon shows and paste it manually into the tab where you started — Sellerwerk detects the return token from the URL.

Step 5 — Choose your marketplaces

Back in Sellerwerk, you see a list of your advertising profiles — one per European marketplace where you have active advertising (DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, PL, SE). Check the boxes for the marketplaces you want Sellerwerk to manage.

You can enable or disable marketplaces any time from Settings later. Starting with just Germany is fine — you can add France, Italy, and the others after you've settled in.

Step 6 — Wait for the first sync

Sellerwerk immediately kicks off a backfill that pulls the last 90 days of campaign, keyword, and search-term data. This runs 2–10 minutes depending on account size. You can leave the page — we'll email when the dashboard is ready.

Gotchas

"Access denied" after approval

Most common cause: you're on the Individual Seller Central plan, not Professional. Upgrade in Seller Central → Settings → Account Info. Individual doesn't include the advertising API scope.

Wrong marketplace selected

If Amazon shows your US account when you wanted the EU one, log out of Amazon in that tab and log in again explicitly with the EU account credentials. Amazon persistently remembers the last-used account.

Credentials-expired error after a month

Amazon rotates refresh tokens periodically. If you changed your Seller Central password, enabled MFA, or Amazon detected suspicious activity, the refresh token may be revoked. Sellerwerk shows a banner prompting you to reconnect — see Common errors for the specific recovery path.

No profiles found

Advertising scope is active on your Professional account, but no profiles returned? Check Seller Central → Settings → User Permissions. The user you're logged in as may not have the Advertising permission granted by the account owner.
